Ratatat "Seventeen Years"

Brief Background: This is a music video for the song "Seventeen Years" by Ratatat. Ratatat is a group made up of 2 members, Mike Stroud and Evan Mast. They met as students at Skidmore College in 2001 and released their first album in 2003. Most of their music is electronic rock, but this song in particular is a mixture of techno, hip-hop, and rock n' roll. I chose this piece because not only do I love the song and think it is very interesting and unique, but i think the music video adds a whole other element of art to it with the message it sends. The video of "Seventeen Years" is trying to send the message of what global warming and the other major influences that take a toll on our environment. The place we live is getting destroyed more and more everyday. They use the cartoon to portray the harm we cause to our environment and also the plants and animals that live in it. I think that the song alone is a great piece of art. I had picked this song to present even before i watched the video. The music video just happened to be a great benefit that is also a good piece of art in and of itself. This would be considered instrumentalist because it clearly has a message it is trying to send. I think it makes a positive contribution to society as well. People watch it and it makes them think about the harm we are causing.
